With the commitment to promote and preserve its local culture and the arts, the city government extolled local artists at the Pupul ning Banua Awards Night last February 28, 2015 held at the Museo ning Angeles here in the city.
City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said that the event was conceptualized to distinguish Angeleños who have made their names known in the field of cinema, music, fashion, visual arts and literature among others. The mayor also added that the event is to recognize the efforts of artists who have “devoted their time and effort in the creation and performance of masterpieces that the whole world appreciates.”
Angeles City Tourism Officer, Dr. Richard Daenos, said that Banua means two things,“First,we are being thankful for a year of good harvest in the field, arts; second,we are providing a platform of appreciation and recognition for the Angeleños who have been blessed by the heavens with the gift of artistry.” He describes Pupul as a local version of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Ani ng Dangal.
In its first year, the Pupul ning Banua were given to a total of 19 local groups and artists namely: Film Producer,FerdinandLapuz and Director, Jason Paul Laxamana, in the field of Cinema and Film; Animator, Leonardo Calma Jr. for Digital Art; Stylist, Giovanni “Bang” Pineda for Fashion; ASAP 20’s Executive Producer, Gerrome Esguerra for Stage Production; the Holy Angel University Center for Kapampangan Studies and Kulitan advocate, Alexandre D. Tiotuico for Literature; 2014 Mr. Asian International, Jerwin Mark Sunglao for Pageantry; Angeles City Dance Athletes, Angeles Pampanga Dance Athletes,The Dance Conservatory, Adriana Gozun, Juan Paolo Lorenzo Esaño and members of the A-Team for Dance; 2014 World Championships of Performing Arts Male Singers, RJBuenagua and Daryl Christian Reynes, as well as the Holy Angel University Chorale for Music; 2014 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence Awardee, Arnel Garcia and brothers Eric and Edu Perreras for Visual Arts.
The Pupul ning Banua awarding ceremony is the culmination of the city’s celebration of the National Arts Month in February.
